A Career as a Medical Assistant Essay - 602 Words

My chosen degree program is Associates of Applied Science in Medical Assisting at Kaplan University. I am currently a online student. I have been doing some research of my program and I have came up with a lot of very interesting facts. First the median salary for a Medical Assistant is $28,860 per year that is about $13.87 a hour, that was in May 2010. There could be opportunities it maybe higher, For example, the experience you may have, or the facility you are working in, and even the level of the education that you have (/www. .bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/medical-assistants.htm). From my online research I have noticed there is a high demand for Medical Assistant mostly everywhere. With the growing population of people, There is†¦show more content†¦In Massachusetts for example the hospitals are now requiring that you be a CMA(Certified medical assistant) Just to name a couple. This certification is a state test that you can take after you finish the medical assistant program. Some of the other things employers like you to have is CPR training, Bloodborne Pathogens, and know how to draw blood. I took the CMA exam once and did not pass it, I was not as ready as I thought I was but within a couple months I will take the test again and I think I will do better. I think Kaplan is going to play a good role in my doing well because they will help me learn all the things I need to know so I can go out and be a wonderful medical assistant. The job outlook for a medical assistant is that employment for medical assistants is projected to increase 31% by 2020. The baby-boom, the increase of people getting sick, the major medical problems that people are developing there is going to be more clinics opening, group practices, etc. The result is that more medical assistants are going to be needed (http://www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/medical-assistants.htm#tab-6). Some of the duties of a medical assistant can be administrative as well as clinical. The main duty is for the medical assistant is to bring the patient in, get there vital signs, such as height, weight, blood pressure, temperature and whatever else the facility wants.
