Theory of Education - Essay Example A fundamental part of training is the ability, or intentionality, of the student. Dwindles endeavors to explain the idea of training by detailing the four rules which describe the procedures associated with ‘being educated.’ By his own confirmation, Peters plans his measures as a â€Å"guide,† and not as a â€Å"definitive statement† of law (2). Taken in this point of view, his rules for ‘being educated’ show up truly sensible. Peters’ records four rules which are fundamental for a procedure to fulfill the idea of training: instruction includes an assortment of information and a comprehension of related standards; training infers a change of standpoint; training includes mindful and duty; training must have a psychological point of view. Peters’ four models prevail with regards to giving us an away from of the idea of ‘being educated,’ in spite of the fact that they can't be acknowledged as completely straight out. Th e primary rules set somewhere around Peters, to which the procedures of training must adjust, is the ownership of information and a comprehension of fundamental standards. ... The information controlled by an informed individual can't be simply â€Å"a assortment of disconnected facts† (8). Diminishes unmistakably separates among preparing and instruction: preparing is â€Å"equipping individuals with essential aptitudes for a job† (7). Instruction has another measurement than simple preparing. Preparing can have instructive worth, however the idea of training rises above the insignificant securing of abilities. Diminishes completely expresses that the target of instruction isn't extraneous: outward goals, for example, making the student work commendable, fall under the ambit of preparing. Then again, the targets of training are inborn, including â€Å"the improvement of individual possibilities - keenness and character† (5). In separating among preparing and training, Peters presently leads into his subsequent basis, which depends on the change achieved by instruction. As per Peters’ second measures, ‘being educatedâ€⠄¢ achieves an adjustment in the viewpoint of the informed individual. He clarifies the sort of information which an informed man must have, so as to be called ‘educated,’ and not simply ‘knowledgeable’. The information gained by an informed individual is dynamic, and his â€Å"outlook is changed by what he knows† (9). This information comes to portray his perspective on, and doesn't exist in disconnection from different circles of his life. As such, Peters’ underlines that the information controlled by an informed individual isn't latent: it is effectively applied to each part of that person’s life. Peters’ idea of the ‘active’ idea of training is additionally set apart by another trademark, which shapes his next standards. Peters’ third models is intently

The SAT will still have an experimental section -- but not everyone will be taking it

The Washington Post reported yesterday  that the new SAT will in fact continue to include an experimental section. According to James Murphy of the Princeton Review, guest-writing in Valerie Strausss column, the change was announced at a meeting for test-center coordinators in Boston on February 4th. To sum up: The  SAT has traditionally included an extra section either Reading, Writing, or Math that is used for research purposes only and is not scored. In the past, every student taking the exam  under regular conditions (that is, without extra time) received an exam that included one of these sections. On the new SAT, however, only students not taking the test with writing (essay) will be given  versions of the test that include experimental multiple-choice questions, and then only some of those students. The College Board has not made it clear what percentage  will take the experimental version, nor has it indicated how  those students will  be selected. Murphy writes: In all the public relations the company has done for the new SAT, however, no mention has been made of an experimental section. This omission led test-prep professionals to conclude that the experimental section was dead. Hes got that right I certainly  assumed the experimental section had been scrapped! And I spend a fair amount of time communicating  with people who stay much more in the loop about the College Boards less publicized wheelings and dealings than I do. Murphy  continues: The College Board has not been transparent about the inclusion of this section. Even in that one place it mentions experimental questions—the counselors’ guide  available for download as a PDF  Ã¢â‚¬â€ you need to be familiar with the language of psychometrics to even know that what you’re actually reading is the announcement of experimental questions.   The SAT will be given in a standard testing room (to students with no testing accommodations) and consist of four components — five if the optional 50-minute Essay is taken — with each component timed separately. The timed portion of the SAT with Essay (excluding breaks) is three hours and 50 minutes. To allow for pretesting, some students taking the SAT with no Essay will take a fifth, 20-minute section. Any section of the SAT may contain both operational and pretest items. The College Board document defines neither â€Å"operational† nor â€Å"pretest.† Nor does this paragraph make it clear whether all the experimental questions will appear only on the fifth section, at the start or end of the test, or will be dispersed throughout the exam. During the session, I asked if all the questions on the extra section won’t count and was told they would not. This paragraph is less clear on that issue, since it suggests that experimental (â€Å"pretest†) questions can show up on any section. When  The Washington Post  asked for clarification on this question, they were sent the counselor’s paragraph, verbatim. Once again, the terminology was not defined and it was not clarified that â€Å"pretest† does not mean before the exam, but experimental. For starters, I was unaware that the term pretest could have a second meaning. Even by the College Boards current standards, thats  pretty brazen (although closer to  the norm than not). Second, Im not sure how it is possible to have a standardized test that has different versions with different lengths, but one set of scores. (Although students who took the old test with accommodations did not receive an experimental section, they presumably formed a group small enough not to be statistically significant.) In order to  ensure that scores are as valid as possible, it would seem reasonable to ensure that, at bare minimum, as many students as possible receive the same version of the test. As Murphy rightly points out, issues of fatigue and pacing can have a significant effect on students scores a student who takes a longer test will, almost certainly, become more tired and thus more likely to incorrectly answers questions that he or should would otherwise have gotten right. Second, Im no expert in statistics, but there would seem to be some problems with this method of data collection. Because the old experimental section was given to nearly all test-takers,  any information gleaned from it could be assumed to hold true for  the general population of test-takers. The problem now is not simply that only one group of testers will be given experimental questions, but that the the group given experimental questions  and the group not given experimental questions may not be  comparable. If you consider that the colleges requiring the Essay are, for the most part, quite selective, and that students tend not to apply to those schools unless theyre somewhere in the ballpark academically, then it stands to reason that the group sitting for the Essay will be, on the whole, a higher-scoring group  than the group not sitting for the Essay. As a result, the results obtained from the non-Essay group might not apply to test-takers across the board. Lets say, hypothetically, that test takers in the Essay group are more likely to correctly answer a certain question than are test-takers in the non-Essay group. Because the only data obtained will be from students in the non-Essay group, the  number of students answering that question correctly is  lower than it would be if the entire group of test-takers were taken into account.   If the same phenomenon repeats itself for many, or even every,  experimental question, and new tests are created based on the data gathered from the two unequal groups, then  the entire level of the test will eventually shift down   perhaps further erasing some of the score gap, but also giving a further advantage  to the stronger (and likely more privileged) group of students on future tests. All of this is speculation, of course. Its possible that the College Board has some way of statistically adjusting for the difference in the two groups (maybe the Hive can help with that!), but even so, you have to wonder†¦ Wouldnt it just have been better  to create a five-part exam and give the same test to everyone?

A Report On The Attack Automation Strategy - 1724 Words

http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~sunshine/publications/ccr.pdf 1a) An DDoS(Distributed Denial of Service) Attack consists of several phases – firstly the attacker recruits multiple agent machines which will be later on infected with the attack code and further exploited. The infected machines can be used to further recruit new agents. We can outline those phases as Recruit, Exploit, Infect and Use. †¢ ATTACK AUTOMATION STRATEGY The attack automation strategy stands for how much of the DDoS attack does an attacker want to make automatic and how much to leave for manual control. The strategy depends on the degree of automation of the phases of the attack. There are three general automation degrees - Manual, Automated and Semi-Automated- which are explained as follows: o Manual In that case, the hacker manually recruits machines by scanning remote ones for vulnerabilities, breaks their security mechanisms, installs the prepared attack code and then directs the attack. This type of a DDoS Attack has become really outdated since lately all the recruitment phase has been automated. Weak design consideration in terms of functionality and productivity. o Semi-Automated In the Semi-Automated DDoS attacks the DDoS â€Å"network† is made of a handler and an agent machine. There is automation present for the Recruit, Exploit and Infect phases. Through the communication between the handler and the agent, the attacker specifies the attack type, the onset, the duration and the victims ID. Aristotle s Views On Society - 2536 Words

Aristotle and J.S. Mill are two of the most well known philosophers who both believe that some pleasures are seen as higher or more desirable than others. However, do both their theories really relate to each other or is there a degree of conflict between them that reveals their difference in views? Although both Aristotle’s view along with J.S. Mill’s view may originate many years ago, they still have an impact on society today and what we can learn from them, especially in modern-day Canada. Ultimately, we will be looking into both the similarities and differences of these two philosophers views and determining whom we can most learn from as Canadians in today’s society. As their views may differentiate, both these philosopher’s have a†¦show more content†¦Who is Aristotle one may ask? Aristotle was a Greek philosopher who dates back to the year 384 BC. Aristotle was a philosopher who studied numerous subjects and ideas ranging from geology, epi stemology, biology, and of course happiness (Aristotle, 2009). Aristotle has a very unique view on happiness that is still looked at the same today, as it was when he first came up with it. Aristotle states that one does not simply become happy after doing a small task or playing with friend for the day. He states that one does not just become happy, but they strive for happiness throughout their entire lives and then have finally achieved it once they have passed (Aristotle, 2009). The main reasoning behind this is that one cannot always be happy by doing one thing, but they must do a number of things in order to strive and reach for that certain level of happiness. For instance, while doing research I came across a great analogy that I thought summed up Aristotle’s view perfectly. The article stated that we cannot claim children are truly happy, any more than we can say an acorn in a tree (Cohen, 2008). That being said, there is so much more to happiness then some think. Su re we may seem happy after hanging out with friends for one day, but there is simply just so much more beyond that when talking about happiness in our lives. Happiness is

American Beauty Essay Example For Students

American Beauty Essay American Beauty tells the story of one mans search for happiness. The film introduces the audience to Lester Burnham, an ordinary- looking married man and father in his forties. Lester is in a loveless marriage. Lesters wife, Carolyn, is so wrapped-up in her real estate career that Lester often claims that Carolyn doesnt even acknowledge him. Furthermore, Lesters daughter, Jane, is completely distant, often claiming how pathetic she thinks her father is. Moreover, Lester has dedicated fourteen years to his occupation, and suddenly, he is in danger of losing his job due to downsizing. All of these factors dramatically effect Lester and culminate into feelings of desperation and vulnerability for him. Lester is therefore in search of an escape and a rebirth. He is seeking the slightest possibility of happiness. Throughout the story Lester is consistently reminiscing on his past; wishing he could have it back. In the beginning portions of the story, Lester, as the narrator, states that it is never too late to regain your past. The catalyst to this frame of thought is Janes friend, Angela. Lester feels excited by the thought that a teen-age girl thinks he is hot. Lester overhears Angela state that she would have sex with him if Lester would start working-out and build-up his body. This drives Lester to change himself completely. Lester, in desperate search of happiness , finds an escape in Angela. Much like a hormone-driven teenage boy, Lester thinks that if he can score with a bombshell like Angela, then he will be reborn. Lesters mission for happiness and escape is further perpetuated by his eighteen year old neighbor, Ricky. In Ricky, Lester sees his model for rebirth. Lester calls Ricky his hero and is in awe of Rickys confidence. Lester, then begins a transformation back to his stereotypical understanding of what a teenager is. Lester begins to work-out, smoke pot, and drink beer. Much like a teen, he rebels against responsibility by quitting his job and; therefore, bypassing his duties as a provider to his daughter and wife. Furthermore, Lester spontaneously, trades in his Mercedes automobile for a 1970s cherry-red Trans Am sports car. In addition, Lester pursues a job with the least amount of responsibility. He finds that job in a fast food restaurant. All of these actions are deemed necessary to Lester because this is the way to escape and thus achieving happiness. The first scene where the audience is introduced to Lesters transformation process is when he first spots Angela. Lester and Carolyn decided to come and support Jane at a school basketball game where she is to perform a dance at half-time. This scene is significant because it shows how Angelas sexuality motivated Lester to rebel against who he is. Furthermore, this scene exemplifies Lesters characteristics as a hormone-crazed male in search of sex. This frame of thought is associated more with teens than with men in their forties. The first two technical elements used to exemplify this scene are composition and camera movement. The scene begins with Lester and Carolyn already in the stands with the crowd. Angela, Jane, and the other cheerleaders enter the picture with right to left movement assisted by a panning camera shot of right to left. This foreshadows the unordinary actions that are about to occur. Almost immediately, into the dance routine, Angela is given an upward position in the frame elevated with dynamic composition. It is dynamic composition because there is movement (Angela dancing) within a fixed frame. By giving Angela an upward position within the frame this suggest Lester is first noticing her. As the scene continues, and Angela has Lesters full attention, Angela is shown moving towards the camera in another dynamic composition shot complemented by the camera zooming in on her. This gives the audience an idea as to the degree of attention that Lester is giving to Angela due to her sexuality. It also enhances her presence. The scene continues with a static composition shot of Lester. It is static composition because there is no movement within the frame. The camera then begins to zoom in on Lester. As the camera zooms, the crowd is eliminated and only Lester is shown in the frame. Furthermore, the camera focuses on Lesters eyes and makes them appear bigger than they actually are. This makes Lester look like an animal drooling at the mouth over something he desires. At this point, the camera performs a point of view shot showing what Lesters eyes are fixated on, and focuses on Angela. This, once again, displays the degree of enchantment that Angela has placed over Lester. Angela is also shown alone in the frame. This shows that in Lesters mind, only Angela and himself exist at this moment. Not even his daughter is of any relevance. The scene concludes with the camera then performing a shot-reverse-shot of Angela then Lester. This allows the audience to see that in Lesters fantasy, Angela is dancing erotically just for him and is paying as much attention to him as he is paying to her. It is important to note that Angela and Lester are never shown in the same frame in this scene. This suggest that there is some barrier that is between them such as the fact that Lester is desiring a girl that is his daughters age. Lighting is another technical element that adds to the effectiveness of this scene. When the camera performs a point of view shot from Lesters perspective to show the audience that he is fixated on Angela; Angela is shown by herself in the frame. As stated above, this is to show that Angela is the only object of Lesters attention. Lighting adds to this effect. Lighting is used to focus the audience on Lesters eyes and to show that he is being enchanted by what he sees. As Angela is shown alone in the frame, the background in the shot becomes completely black. There is a bright light shining on Angela. The source of the light is not clear, and is coming from above Angela. Homer The Odyssey Essay As the scene continues, the camera pans from left to right and right to left following Lesters hands as they go up and down Angelas body. The camera movement intensifies the erotic feeling in the audience. The camera then moves to a dynamic crane shot , showing Lesters hands unbuttoning Angelas blouse. That shot is then followed by shot-reverse shot of Angela and Lester looking at one another. Angela, is given the low angle, looking-up at Lester, which implies that Lester is in control. This complements the idea that society considers it a macho action for the man to be in control. Still thinking under the mentality of a hormone-crazed teen, Lester feels good. It is important to note that Lester and Angela are not shown in the same shot during these actions. This implies disunity and an ironic separation because they are about to engage in the most intimate activity two humans can share with one another. It is also important to note, that during the crane shots, Angela is consistently given the higher position in the frame. This implies that she is pure and innocent because usually good elements are given the higher position over bad elements (such as heaven being in the sky and hell down under). As Lester is prepared to begin the sex act, Angela reveals that she is a virgin. It is at this point that Lester realizes what he is doing and stops. This shot is a dynamic shot with a crane. It is as if, by some divine intervention, Lester came to realize the error of his ways before it was too late. The scene concludes with a dynamic shot of Lester apologizing to Angela and, for the first time in this scene, they are scene in the same frame. This time, Lester is given the higher position in the frame. This symbolizes that he has come to a realization and is wise. The usage of lighting in this scene implies many symbolic meanings. Throughout the entire scene Angela is shot with light. For example, when the scene begins, Angela is laid down by Lester on a couch. Angela is wearing a white blouse, the couch she is lying on is white, and the light from outside is dimly shining on her, emphasizing the fact that she is wearing white. The light and the color white represent purity: Angela is a virgin. On the other hand, Lester is shown with even less light. As the camera follows his hands erotically going up and down Angelas body; Lesters hands are given the least amount light possible in order to emphasize the impurity aspect of what he is doing. The lighting in this scene is low contrast and low key. It is low contrast because the light used was dim and was rather gray. This implies a sense of mystery because the audience knows that Carolyn is on the way to the house to kill Lester. Also, the audience is unsure if Lester is going to go through with having sex with Angela. It is low key because both Angelas and Lesters shadows can be seen. Editing is very significant in this scene. Decoupage is used throughout this scene. Decoupage implies that there will be fast-paced cutting. This is absolutely necessary in this scene in order to add to the excitement of the scene. Angela and Lester are at the point of no return. It is not clear what is going to happen. Fast paced cutting accelerates the speed of the scene, as almost to provide the audience with excitement. In this case, the kind of excitement that a teenage boy, or Lester, in this case, would feel before having sex. However, unlike the previous scene, this scene uses an ellipsis. This takes place when Lester is rubbing his hands around Angelas thighs. The scene cuts to Jane and Ricky. Both of them are about to run away to New York. The ellipsis occurs to show the audience what has caused Jane to do this. Lester never paid attention to Jane. Instead, he focused on her friend. All Jane wanted was attention from her dad, but Lester was preoccupied with being irresponsible and chasing a girl. The scene then switches back to Angela and Lester. It is important to note that Angela and Lester are never shot in the same frame while sex is still a possibility between the both of them. Instead, they are shot in a shot-reverse-shot fashion. When Lester realizes the error he has made, both of them are shot in the same frame as a two-shot showing unity and resolution over the dilemma. Sound is used heavily in this scene. As the scene begins non-diegetic sound is used. This sound has no source in the image. The sound is music played by a piano and chimes. The music gives the audience a sense of the erotica that is occurring on the screen between Angela and Lester. It also serves a connector to Lesters fantasies. Whenever, Lester fantasizes, an erotic song is used. This time, his fantasy is about to come true. The music comes to an abrupt end when Angela reveals that she is a virgin. Suddenly, Lester realizes that he cannot have sex with a teenager. The ending of the music symbolized the conclusion of that fantasy as well as marked his return to manhood. Throughout this scene, it was raining outside. If you were in the scene you would be able to hear raindrops. But not in this case. This exemplifies the usage of contrapuntal sound. The raindrops were not heard during this scene. This gives the audience an idea of the amount of concentration that Lester was, once again, giving Angela. While Angela was around, nothing else mattered to Lester. Lesters inability to deal with difficult situations, combined with his need for freedom and lack for responsibility, appear to have been too much. Unfortunately, he realized that too late.

Sample Extended Essay Biology Topics

Sample Extended Essay Biology TopicsWhen writing your own paper or exam, it is a good idea to write a sample extended essay that can help you increase your confidence and exam success. A sample essay can also make you more competitive when competing for a scholarship. There are many different essay examples that you can use for your practice. Some examples are listed below. If you have specific knowledge in an area, for example you are good at biology, it may be useful to cover these areas in your essay. For example, if you have used plants and animals in research for research institutions, then it would be good to write a sample essay on plants and animals. Using examples of individuals and how they solved problems is a good way to illustrate your research skills. However, for biology there are more than enough ideas to write a sample essay for.A good study guide for student writing can provide many different examples for you to use. This can be as simple as a chapter list from an en cyclopedia or other reference book. This is just a basic introduction to the topic and will not really show the techniques involved. You should expect that you will see the definitions in the essay and some examples of the discussion process and format used by the author. It is important to find a study guide that gives the most variety of different biology topics to choose from. One idea would be to go through a popular newspaper article and see what types of topics and solutions are available. Try to find a mix of different styles and information from various sources. If you can do so without disrupting your research, then find a good study guide which will include different types of learning methods, such as word processing. This will help you keep your writing organized and keep it easy to follow. Look for a study guide, which offers a variety of different writing samples that you can use for your essay. Reading over the whole document is important, even if you are just reading th e first few sentences.Another example is the general writing experience for students in university science courses. Students generally write essays, their own personal, under the guidance of a professor. It would be a good idea to choose a specialist writing test which will help you improve your writing skills.Writing a sample essay is a good way to improve your confidence, so think about the ideas that you have and how you would make use of them in your essay. However, this type of writing will probably be only a very small part of your essay. Think about writing an essay based on a theme for a research project, rather than a whole essay.

Final Writing Assignment Essays - Alan Turing,

Jonathon McNeil Introduction to Philosophy Final Writing Assignment In Alan Turings essay Computing Machinery and Intelligence, Turing seeks to explain that computers can think. To answer this question Turing comes up with the idea of the Imitation Game. Turing uses an example of an Imitation Game, where a computer is trying to convince a person that the computer is also a person. The Imitation Game is a series of questions and answers. As Alan Turing explains, The question and answer method seems to be suitable for introducing almost any one of the fields of human endeavor that we wish to include. We do not wish to penalize the machine for its inability to shine in beauty competitions, nor to penalize a man for losing in a race against an airplane. (286) The next idea of Turing is The Turings Thesis. The Turings Thesis states that if the computer can pass the Turing Test, then that is sufficient for thought. The basic idea of the Imitation Game involves a man, a woman, and an interrogator. Theoretically if the machine can take the place of the man a nd convince the interrogator that the machine is a woman this would prove that the machine is thinking. As Turing explains, I propose to consider the question Can machines think? This should begin with definitions of the meaning of the terms machine and think. The definitions might be framed so as to reflect so far as possible the normal use of the words, but this attitude is dangerous. If the meaning of the words machine and think are to be found by examining how they are commonly used it is difficult to escape the conclusion that the meaning and the answer to the question, Can machines think? is to be sought in a statistical survey such as a Gallup poll. But this is absurd. Instead of attempting such a definition I shall replace the question by another, which is closely related to it the question by another, which is closely related to it and is expressed in relatively unambiguous words. (285) Turing comes up with a test to decide if a computer can really think. The test is called the Turing Test. The Turing Test is a test of whether a digital computer can convince a person that the computer is actually a human. Turing goes on to explain what he means by a digital computer because at the time in his life digital computers were in infancy. A digital computer consists of three elements: The Store, The Executive Unit, and The Control. According to Turing, The idea behind digital computers may be explained by saying that these machines are intended to carry out any operations which could be done by a human computer. The human computer is supposed to be following fixed rules; he has no authority to deviate from them in any detail. We may suppose that these rules are supplied in a book, which is altered whenever he is put on to a new job. He has also an unlimited supply of paper on which he does his calculations. He may also do his multiplications and additions on a desk machine , but this is not important. The store is the part of the computer that stores the information, in a way the store is the unlimited amount of paper. The executive unit is the part of a computer that runs the program. The control is the part of the computer that makes sure the program is running accurately. Turing believed that by the year 2,000, a computer would be able to pass the Turing Test approximately 30% of the time. We know today that this still has yet to be possible. Turing explained that the computers would need to store of 10^9, and explained that Encyclopedia Britannica contained approximately 2x10^9 amount of information. As Turing states, Nevertheless I believe that at the end of the century the use of words and general educated opinion will have altered so much that one will be able to speak of machines thinking without expecting to be contradicted. I believe further that no useful purpose is served by concealing the beliefs. The popular view that scientists proceed inexorably from well-established fact

The Whitsun Weddings Essays

The Whitsun Weddings Essays The Whitsun Weddings Paper The Whitsun Weddings Paper Larkin explores the gap between romantic yearning and disillusioned pragmatism in the lives we lead. Examine what Larkin has to say about this gap in a choice of poems from â€Å"The Whitsun Weddings† Philip Larkin wrote to engage his reader in the downsides and apparent depression of a post-war period in which aspirations and hope were high, as well as the romantic yearnings which seemed to be present in the majority of the population. Larkin wrote to explore the gulf between what we expect out of life and what he viewed as what we all have to at some point come to terms with, the disappointment and disillusionment that is life. Andrew Motion states that â€Å"Larkin mirrors and vitalises a continual debate between hopeful romantic yearnings and disillusioned pragmatism. † This of course refers to the gulf that Larkin writes about so much as well as the continuous debate that goes on between these yearnings for something better and the dreariness of reality. The poem â€Å"Sunny Prestatyn† is a good example of Larkins attempt to explore the gap between the grand illusions of happiness, individuality and fulfilment and the realities of these things themselves. â€Å"Sunny Prestatyn† seems to comment on the superficial society that has begun to emerge in the post war period as well as the false hope of life itself which is trying to be sold to the public through a typical holiday poster of the time, which much like the rest of life promises perfection, in a holiday. However Larkin explores the gulf between this disillusionment which is being sold and reality itself through the use of vulgarity. The thing that would strike a reader the most about the poem is the use of vulgarity which Larkin uses to make a comment on the vulgarity of the poster itself and the lies of happiness which are trying to be sold. The sexual provocative ness is possibly the most noticeable of the vulgarities as it prompts the vulgar language which is used throughout the poem, without one you wouldn’t get the other. The fact the poem is called Sunny Prestatyn could almost be seen as an ironic comment by Larkin on this gulf, it even seems like the poem at first is trying to sell something to the reader rather than draw our attention to our gap between the disillusionment and reality. The narrative opens with â€Å"Come to Sunny Prestatyn† this straight away shows suggestiveness and the girl on the poster is the object of this suggestiveness, â€Å"Laughed the girl on the poster,† Larkin would have used this language to make an ironic comment on the people who are buying into this poster, the girl in the poster could be seen as laughing at the cruel irony of the selling of these false realities to the public. Vulgar language seems to be present throughout the poem but not through adjectives which may typically be viewed in the manner â€Å"seemed to expand from her thighs† It seems that in the context normally innocuous words take on sexuality. â€Å"Behind her, a hunk of coast. † This makes no sense, how can a piece of land be described sexually? This just further adds to the poignancy of the use of â€Å"breast† and â€Å"thigh† and how ridiculous the sexualising of a holiday is. â€Å"A hotel with palms,† the palm trees should not be at the hotel as they are not local to Wales, all this does is add further to the falsities in trying to make something which it is not. This is something which as I said before is seen particularly through the adjectives in this poem. Larkin not only makes harmless words stand out to make a comment on the falsities of reality he also does it through the use of harmless actions. â€Å"Slapped up† adds to the satirical â€Å"make up†- this would normally be seen as careless and colloquial language but Larkin deliberately makes it vulgar to expose the gap we all live in between disillusionment and reality. The fact that the whole poem is about a picture is probably the biggest comment on the satirical promises as the poem goes on a journey from â€Å"harmless† to â€Å"harmful† it moves from something inoffensive â€Å"snaggle tooth† too something that can be perceived as offensive â€Å"huge tits. † It has to be exaggerated because the poem itself is not harmful but what is done to the poster and the exposing of lies is what is in fact harmful. This is why â€Å"Titch Thomas† does the viewers if the poster a favour by exposing the falsities. He is harmless but whoever stabbed the poster is in fact harmful because they represent the realisation of the gulf romantic yearnings and disillusioned pragmatisms. â€Å"She was too good for this life† This is Larkin really showing us that much like the girl in the poster the dreams she is trying to sell are non existent, lifes realities and what she represents just don’t go together. Then finally to really hit home the point about the false realities Larkin says â€Å"Now Fight Cancer is there† in the early 50s and 60s, cancer was pretty much a death sentence, it is a real wake up call at the end to show that reality and the important things in it need to be concentrated on rather than romantic yearnings and false dreams.

With the release of RIM’s Blackberry 957, one of the world’s first smartphones, Research in Motion was able to define the product category and gain first mover advantages, something achievable through technology leadership and the ability to corner the market in a specific product category (Agarwal and Gort 2001). Up until 2006, when Research in Motion launched its Blackberry Pearl 8100 (the first smartphone with camera capabilities and othe r functional features found on today’s smartphones), RIM was considered to be the foremost expert in mobile telephony virtually untouchable by potential new market entrants for its technological leadership. However, Apple Inc. developed its first version of the Apple iPhone, a revolutionary mobile telephone technology that encompassed multi-functional features and benefits ranging from streaming video capabilities to Internet Wi-Fi connectivity capacity. The innovative features included in the first and subsequent versions of the Apple iPhone quickly seized market share from the previous market leader, Research in Motion, rapidly building market segment loyalty for Apple. General Motors business problems Currently, the business problems General Motors is having is financial, speculated by a few business experts, who have confidence in the company being able to continue in its present form even though it filed bankruptcy in 2006 (Taylor, J, 2013). There are numerous business problems the company is facing, but I will only speak of one which is legacy costs, it’s the caring for General Motor’s retired and injured employees. The union United Auto Worker, have negotiated regularly nice wages, pensions and health care, which protect their member. The profit margin in booming times on automobiles could include buffers to cover the ongoing costs of payments to retirees, hence the financial problem, can’t pay what they agreed. In contrast to foreign competitors and newcomers to auto industry do not have the same problems with their profits. This has forced cash trapped buyers to turn to more affordable cars. General Motors Competition According to General Motor’s Strategic Analysis, the key competitors GM, who’s domestic, are: Daimler/Chrysler, Ford Motor and who are foreign are: Toyota Motor and Honda Motor (Thomas, C, n. d. ). In explanation of why they are competitors Daimler Chrysler placed itself as an industry leader, since, it manufactures brands such as: Dodge, Mercedes Benz, and Jeep. As for Ford Motor Company, two vital businesses are automotive and financial services. Ford has concentrated on reducing cost to raise margins further than its competitors. Thus, Honda Motor Company, it has reliable confident reputation for producing high quality products from cars to motorcycles. Toyota Motor Company has three major brands Toyota, Lexus, and Scion these let Toyota reach many sectors of the globe in a choice of vehicle for the customers. Concluding why General Motors is the leader of its competitors, it manufactures more brands than its competitors, these brands are: Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac, Hummer, Saab, Daewoo, Opel, and Holden. It’s to no wonder why our economy rested on GM success. (Thomas, C, n. d. Population Sample In my population sample for customer attitudes and behaviors, I will use cluster sampling in the selection of how I will gather this information needed. I know as the researcher that population that will be under scrutiny is those ethnicities that do the most purchasing, sadly but true its minorities. According to the Consumer Expenditure Survey that was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Labor S tatistics, minorities spend up to 30% more than that of whites who have comparable incomes (BLS. gov, 2013). Their age would range from 35-64 years old. I will you this age because consumers are spending at 63% (BLS. gov, 2013), now for determining how they will feel about company products and services. As I understand population sample is a process through a group of representative individuals are select from the population for the sole purpose of statistical analysis. I know my population sample must be done correctly, since if errors occur, my data will be misleading or invalid. Steps in the research process In identifying the steps in the research process, my first step would be to identify and develop my research topic. I can do so by, stating what I want to research. Second step: find background information on the subject, utilizing internet as resource for gathering information. Third Step: usage of books and media, I will use guided keyword searches to find material by topic or subject, and writing down in both steps 2 and 3 my sources. Fourth Step: search periodical articles, this will be to find citations to articles. Fifth Step: evaluate what I found, critically analyzing information sources. Sixth Step: cite what I found using standard form, just giving credit where credit is due.
